College Credit Exams CLEP & DSST

The CLEP exam fee will increase from $90.00 to $93.00 on July 1, 2023.


Earn college credits for what you already know and save time and money. CLEP and DSST exams are available to adult learners, college students, high school students and military personnel.

Before you take a CLEP or DSST exam check the Testing Matrix on the Records webpage to find out what college credits you could earn at PPSC. If you plan to send your scores to a different school, be sure to check with them to know what they will accept!

Online scheduling is available for your convenience. You can schedule up to 24 hours before your preferred testing date (pending availability of appointments).

CLEP - College Level Examination Program

CLEP provides a chance for students to earn college credit by examination. PPSC administers all of the exams offered by the College Level Exam Program. Before you register for any CLEP exam, contact your admissions or academic advisor to confirm that your school awards credits for the exam you are planning to take. Students may send their scores to any school that accepts CLEP for credit. Visit CLEP CollegeBoard to learn more about these exams, to register and to purchase study materials. 

After you take the exam, your score is provided to you right away. The only exception is the College Composition exam, for which results are sent at a later date.

There is a proctor fee of $25 payable to Pikes Peak State College for all testers except for DANTES funding eligible testers. The Testing Center at PPSC is a DANTES Fully Funded test site 

Registration Process:

  1. Choose the right CLEP test for you. Speak with your advisor if you have questions.
  2. Go to CLEP CollegeBoard to register and pay for your exam. The cost of each CLEP exam is $93.
    • Accommodations are available for candidates with proper documentation. If you need more information, contact CLEP at 800-257-9558 before registering for an exam.
    • Active-duty military only: Indicate you are eligible for DANTES funding when asked. See instructions on How to Register Under DANTES.
  3. Print your CLEP Registration Ticket and bring it on your test day. You must have this to sit for the exam.
  4. Schedule an appointment
  5. Pay the proctor fee $25
  6. Arrive at the Test Center 15 minutes before your appointment for check-in.
  7. Bring a valid government issued ID.
    • DANTES funding eligible military test takers must provide a valid Common Access Card (CAC).


CLEP and the Military

CLEP exams and the proctor fee are waived for eligible military services members, spouses, and civil services employees. Visit the CLEP Military Benefits  for more information about who is DANTES-eligible.

Note: DANTES does not pay the exam fee or proctor fee for a previously funded CLEP exam. Military who wants to retake an exam previously funded by DANTES must wait 90 days and pay $93 CLEP exam fee as well as the $25 proctor fee.

DSST - DANTES Subject Standardized Test

DSST exams provide a chance for students to earn college credit for what they have learned in non-traditional ways. Before you register for any DSST exam, contact your admissions or academic advisor to confirm that your school awards credits for the test you are planning to take. Testers receive immediate score results in all of the exams except for Public Speaking. Students may send their score transcript to any institution that accepts DSST credit.

There is a proctor fee of $25 payable to Pikes Peak State College for all testers except for DANTES funding eligible testers. The Testing Center at PPSC is DANTES Fully Funded test site 

Registration Process:

  1. Choose the right DSST test for you. Speak with your advisor if you have questions.
  2. Find the Test Center or Credit-Award Institution code where you would like your scores sent.
  3. Schedule an appointment
  4. Pay your proctor fee $25
  5. Arrive at the Test Center 15 minutes before your appointment for check-in.
  6. Bring a valid government issued ID. DANTES funded eligible military test takers must provide a valid Common Access Card (CAC).
  7. Bring a credit card to make payment to DSST for the test. Each test costs $100.

DSST and the Military

DSST exams and the proctor fee are waived for eligible military services members, spouses, and civil services employees. Visit the DSST Active Duty/Veterans Members webpage for more information about who is DANTES-eligible.

Note: DANTES does not pay the exam fee or proctor fee for a previously funded DSST exam. Military who wants to retake an exam previously funded by DANTES must wait 30 days and pay $100 DSST exam fee as well as the $25 proctor fee.
