Weather Closure

Is the College Open or Closed?

We are open as normal unless there is a message on the website indicating otherwise.

During inclement weather, closure decisions are typically made by 6 a.m. Updates are posted on the PPSC website and shared through text and email alerts and social media.

How to Get Closure Updates

When weather may affect College operations, PPSC shares closure information in several ways. For the most current information, check the following:
  1. PPSC Emergency Notifications. Emergency notifications are sent directly to students and employees by text and email when a closure or other significant change to College operations is announced. Make sure you are signed up.
  2. PPSC Website. Closure information is posted in a banner at the top of PikesPeak.edu. If there is no closure message on the website, the College is operating normally.
  3. PPSC Social Media. Closure and weather updates are also shared through PPSC’s official Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts.
  4. FlashAlert. PPSC uses FlashAlert to distribute closure information to participating news organizations and other subscribers. You can also check FlashAlert directly for current PPSC information.
  5. Local TV Stations. PPSC closure information is also provided to local television stations. Check their websites or broadcasts for current school and business closure information.

Inclement Weather Process

PPSC announces weather closures by 6 a.m. whenever possible. A closure applies to all four primary campuses: Centennial, Rampart Range, Downtown, and the Center for Healthcare Education & Simulation.

During a closure:

  • In-person classes and activities are canceled.
  • Only essential personnel may access campus.
  • Online classes continue as scheduled, including the online portions of hybrid courses.

PPSC does not use delayed starts. The College is either open or closed.

PPSC may close early when severe weather develops during the day. When possible, the College provides approximately two hours of notice before closing.

Closure decisions consider conditions across the region as well as safety conditions on PPSC campuses

  • PPSC often follows the decisions of the region’s four largest school districts: Colorado Springs District 11, Academy District 20, School District 49 and Harrison District 2.
  • The President also seeks input from campus facilities and campus police.
  • Facilities provides information about on-campus conditions, especially safety of sidewalks, parking lots, and building conditions.
  • Campus Police typically offers input on road conditions or closures.

Weather and road conditions can vary across the region. If you do not feel you can travel safely even when campuses remain open, use your best judgment.

Students: Contact your instructor if weather conditions prevent you from safely reaching campus.
Employees: Contact your supervisor if weather conditions prevent you from safely reaching work.
