healthcare industry. You can expect to learn how to perform blood draws, urinalysis,
and point-of-care testing for conditions such as diabetes, influenza, and strep. You
will experience hands-on learning as well as classroom instruction, all based at the
CHES Campus. In addition to taking phlebotomy classes, the curriculum also includes
medical terminology and healthcare customer service. With a high job placement and
expected continued growth, you can expect a career as a phlebotomist in a private
lab, hospital, or other healthcare facility.

At PPSC, phlebotomy students will learn to acquire specimens for laboratory analysis. This may include blood draws, urinalysis, point of care testing, such as blood sugar, urine pregnancy, rapid beta strep and influenza testing.
In addition to specimen collection, phlebotomists also decide which tests can be done locally or must be transported to a laboratory for analysis.
Certificate program classes include: medical terminology, customer service in healthcare, and law & ethics in healthcare. Beginning and advanced phlebotomy techniques are completed in two separate classes.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Notice of Non-Discrimination
Discusses the structure of medical terms with emphasis on using and combining prefixes, roots, and suffixes. This class includes terms related to major body systems, oncology, and psychiatry, as well as clinical laboratory and diagnostic procedures and imaging, and provides accepted pronunciation and spelling of terms used in the healthcare setting.
Covers the duties associated with the practice of venipuncture, capillary puncture, and special collection procedures. This course provides experience with quality control, infection control, safety procedures, as well as laboratory computer systems. Successful completion of this course, with an adequate number of blood draws, will constitute eligibility for application for a National Phlebotomy Registry Examination.
Introduces student to the study and application medico-legal concepts in medical careers. This course seeks to establish a foundation for ethical behavior and decision making in health professions.
