When you study Biology at PPSC, you will learn from faculty with diverse areas of study and life experiences. Our faculty are experts in microbiology, human anatomy, animal biology, and botany. Biology classes include both lectures and labs. Classes are small and personal, providing you with the support you need to succeed. With an associate degree, you could get a job as a lab technician. If you pursue advanced degrees, you could go into fields like nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and public health.
You can choose the Allied Health Track or transfer to a university to earn a degree in Biological Sciences. The courses
you take will depend on your track and goals. You are highly encouraged to meet with
an academic advisor before registration, especially if you plan to transfer to a four-year
school or pursue graduate studies in sciences or health professions.
All students start by learning about the chemistry of life, cell structure and function,
and genetics. Additional courses may include Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, Computer
Sciences, Astronomy, Physical Geography, and Meteorology.
The study of biology prepares one for a variety of fields including the traditional ones-biology teacher, doctor, nurse, or conservationist. Students are strongly encouraged to seek academic advising prior to registration regarding the acceptability of online science courses if they anticipate transferring to a four-year institution or completing graduate work in the sciences or health professions.
