What can I do with a degree in Surgical Technology?

A Surgical Technologist is a pivotal member of the operating room team and this career requires a committed attitude and a certain set of patient centered qualities from those who practice in this profession. The Surgical Technology Program prepares you for an exciting career in a wide range of surgical settings, offering opportunities in hospital operating rooms, sterile processing, labor and delivery, ophthalmology, cardiovascular, plastics, orthopedics and many other specialties. Students who successfully complete the PPSC Surgical Technology Program are able to than sit for the National Certification Exam for Surgical Technology given by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Students can practice under the credentials of Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) upon passing the exam.


The Industry and Job Types

Surgical technologists have many different job titles such as scrub tech, operating room technician, or surgical assistant.  This is a very diverse job that does many tasks across the patient care setting.
