Outdoor Leadership and Recreation Technology Degree

Our mission is to provide excellence in developing empowered, competent and marketable outdoor recreation leaders while fostering responsible stewardship of the natural environment through implementation of the Outdoor Leadership and Recreation Technology Educational Philosophy (OLRTEP). OLRTEP encourages students to utilize thinking, planning, doing and reflection techniques in studying and practicing outdoor servant leadership and recreation-focused skills.

This degree is great to get students into the recreation and leadership industry and Colorado Springs and the surrounding area are a perfect place to get field experience. This two-year AAS degree includes a variety of hands-on learning opportunities and a diverse elective list allowing students to enhance outdoor skills in their specific area of interest. Training emphases include outdoor leadership, field studies, group dynamics, risk management, wilderness skills, and low-impact techniques for environmental stewardship. To enhance the learning process, students will utilize their education by applying skills developed within the program to an internship of their choosing.
