Your PPSC Associate of Arts degree can transfer to several universities within Colorado. With an academic background in geography, students can pursue careers in natural resource conservation, cartography, planning, historic preservation, geology, meteorology, disaster preparedness, climate change, teaching, and many others.

PPSC offers the following Geography degree options:
Associate of Arts (AA) Degree with Designation 

Transfer Opportunities
Most four year universities and colleges have geography programs available for students. Local programs include University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Denver, or Boulder, the University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado State University.  Please inquire early in your AA program with the Geography faculty listed at the bottom of this screen to get more information on continuing with a Geography major at a 4-year institution. Earn your Associate’s Degree at PPSC, and then get your Bachelor of Arts degree, Master of Arts degree and Doctoral degree in Geography. Anything is possible!

  • Math Requirements - Student should test into either MAT 1240 or MAT 1340

  • GEO 1005 - World Regional Geography (3)
  • ENG 1021 - English Composition 1:  CO1 (3)
  • Natural and Physical Sciences (3)  - One GT Natural and Physical Science courses from GT-SC1 or GT-SC2: Recommend GEO 1060, AST 1140, or GEY 1108.
  • Art and Humanities (3) - One GT Arts & Humanities courses from AH1, AH2, AH3, or AH4:  Recommend ART 1110, ART 1111, HUM 1015, MUS 1020, THE 1005
  • AA Approved Elective (3) - selected from the AA Approved Course list. Recommend ENV 1010, COM 1250, HIS 1310, or ECO 2001

Total 15 Credit Hours

  • GEO 1011 - Physical Geography: Landforms (4)
  • ENG 1022  - English Composition II: CO2 (3)
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences (3) - One GT Social and Behavioral Sciences courses from SS1 or SS3: Recommend ANT 1001, ANT 1003, COM 2300, POS 2020, SOC 1001
  • If attending UCCS, prefer MAT 1240 Mathematics for the Liberal Arts (4) OR If attending other Colorado schools MAT 1340 College Algebra (4) or MAT 1260 Intro to Statistics (3)
  • AA approved elective (2 or 3, depending upon math credits) selected from the AA approved course list.

  • GEO 1012 - Physical Geography: Weather, Climate, and Ecosystems (4)
  • AA approved elective (3) - selected from the AA approved course list. Recommend ENV 1010, COM 1250, HIS 1310, ECO 2001
  • Natural and Physical Sciences (4)  - One GT Natural and Physical Science courses from GT-SC1 or GT-SC2: Recommend MET 1050, ENV 1111, ANT 1005, AST 1110, GEY 1112
  • History (3) - One GT History course from GT-HI1: Recommend HIS 1310, HIS 1320, HIS 1110, HIS 1120, or HIS 2015
