Tutoring Introduction

What is Tutoring?

Tutoring is an academic support program offered by the Learning Commons to assist students in learning course content.

Tutor Responsibilities

Successfully complete the mandatory College Reading & Learning Association Certified Tutor Training through the Learning Commons
Adhere to a regular schedule for the full semester appointment
Utilize LC approved tutoring techniques and strategies to assist students with course content

Highly Requested Subjects

Accounting - All levels
Biology - BIO 1111 and above
Business - BUS 1015 and above
Chemistry - CHE 1111
Computer Information Systems - CIS 1015, 1018, 1045
Computer Science - CSC 1005, 1060, 2020
Economics - ECO 2001
English/Writing - ENG 1021 and above
History - HIS 1310, 1320
Math - MAT 0300 and above

Apply to be a PPSC Tutor

All Learning Commons tutors must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for a tutoring position:

A grade of "A" or "B" in the course(s) for which you wish to be a tutor
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
Must attend all Tutor trainings and meetings

To apply, please submit an application, availability form, and an unofficial transcript to the LC identifying the courses you wish to tutor. Applicants may also choose to obtain recommendations from faculty. Applications, avaialability forms and transcripts can be returned to one of the tutoring centers at the Centennial or Rampart campus or emailed to Tutoring@pikespeak.edu.

Pay Range - All new LC tutors are paid according to the following schedule:

Current Student - $14.50 / hr
Earned AA/AS degree - $15.00 / hr
Earned BA/BS degree - $17.00 / hr
Earned Graduate degree - $20.00 / hr

Tutors may be eligible for a raise after each year of consistent employment with the LC and upon obtaining new level of College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Level 1 and Level 2 Certification.
