Background

Hello, my name is Judith Steed, and I teach at Pikes Peak State College. At university, I graduated with a Bachelors in Sociology and another in Philosophy, and a Masters in Sociology (the sociology of science) from Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) in southwestern Virginia. I honor everyone as unique, and I am fascinated by the experiences and forces outside of ourselves in our communities, families, workspaces and leisure times that influence us.

Professional Experience

I have used my sociological understanding in each of my jobs in various industries. My research was to reveal trends, patterns and make predictions about cultures, behaviors, change, and outcomes of programs I worked on. In law, medicine, management training, leadership, education, civil rights, evaluation, consultancy, and public service, Sociology has been the most useful tool and construct for my roles, contributions to the tasks, and the expertise I pursued.

I have had the privilege to teach several courses and seminars at university, community college, in business and non-profit workspaces. The academic courses were Introduction to Sociology, Individual in a Changing Society, Social Problems, and Sociology of Diversity. The seminars and work projects I worked on were of a range of topics like housing, power & inequity, designing and implementing civil rights programs for the community of the disabled, support programs for at-risk youth, offered different strategies for evaluating programs in rural and urban areas, survey design for diverse populations, the impact of UN sustainability goals, the analysis of workplace culture as reflected in assessments, the impact of management & leadership training programs, the evaluation of adolescent suicide prevention programs in K-12, as well as building relational database on training assessments and cultural measures.
