Learn MoreThe Dance program at PPSC will bring out your natural abilities in movement, giving you the skills to become a well-rounded dance artist, capable of pursuing a variety of diverse paths. Whether you're a beginner or advanced student, we are here to aid you on your journey. You can now earn your Degree with Designation in Dance and choose to transfer to earn your Bachelor's degree and/or apply your AA Degree to your career as a performer, choreographer, studio director or other arts-related position. The program strives to help each student develop, strengthen and further advance technique in a variety of different dance genres, as well as develop critical thinking skills through creative and scholarly processes. You will discover how to work within groups and how to express your own individuality. Upon completion, you will be able to teach dance at studios or in schools, audition for professional companies, create and produce their own work, and/or transfer to a four-year institution to major/minor in dance.
Students who study dance gain an understanding of:
Students may study dance for enrichment, fitness and/or to complete and earn a Degree with Designation in Dance.

Introduces the history of dance as a theatre or performing art. Examines dance from Classical Greece through the Renaissance, including court and classical ballet to modern dance with African and Caribbean influences.
Elementary modern technique for the general student. The emphasis is placed on correct body alignment and integration, locomotor skills, dynamic variety, and musicality. Explores dance as a tool for communication and dance as an art form. Familiarizes student with basic modern dance history. May be repeated for no more than three credits.
Builds on Ballet II at an intermediate/advanced level. Continues learning within the basic structure of a ballet class while increasing the level of skills through more experience with challenging movement combinations.

The majority of dance classes are approved elective credits and will transfer to a number of institutions. We are currently working on articulation agreements with the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado State University at Fort Collins, and Colorado Mesa University at Grand Junction.
Students from PPSC who studied in the Dance Department have gone on to CSU-Fort Collins, CSU-Pueblo, UNC-Greeley, CU-Boulder, Colorado Mesa University, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Naropa University, University of Denver, AMDA in NYC, Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO, Oklahoma City University, State University of New York at Brockport, and University of Hawaii at Manoa, as well as working professionally with Schiff Dance Collective in Boulder and Ormao in Colorado Springs. Students have also gone on to teach at a variety of different studios across Colorado and have interned and danced as far away as Russia.
Upon completion, you will be able to teach dance at studios or in schools, audition for professional companies, create and produce your own work, and/or transfer to a four-year institution to major in dance. Students planning for an AA Degree or to transfer and major/minor in dance will be required to take Ballet, Modern, & Jazz, as well as Dance Performance, Dance Composition, History of Dance, and Methods of Teaching Dance. You will have your choice in pursuing other dance genres including Hip Hop, Tap, Ballroom, Salsa, Belly Dance or Dance for Camera. Special Topics courses such as Dance Composition II, and Improvisation Techniques are also strongly encouraged.
