Monday, February 19, 2024- Colorado Springs, CO – On Saturday, March 9 at 5:00 pm, Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) will hold a special benefit to honor the legacy of Chef Henry Trujillo, the 3rd Executive Chef of The Broadmoor and a treasured member of the PPSC culinary family. Guests are invited to enjoy an evening of farm-to-table cuisine prepared by PPSC culinary instructors and guest chefs from around the state. The event takes place at the Broadmoor’s Cheyenne Lodge, nestled in the shadow of Cheyenne Mountain at 4199 S Club Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80906. A prominent selection of local beer and Colorado wines will complete the delicious meal. Tickets can be purchased online at pikespeak.edu/trujillo-dinner.

The proceeds from this event will support funding the newly established Chef Henry Trujillo Memorial Scholarship, which will provide financial support to PPSC students pursuing degrees and certificates in the culinary arts. With today’s increasing demand for talented professional chefs, the scholarship will create new opportunities for aspiring chefs and reduce their educational expenses.

“Chef Trujillo’s legacy is a testament to the fact that with passion, hard work, and a commitment to community, one can make a lasting impact. He taught us that being a chef is not just about cooking; it's about creating experiences that bring people together,” says Donna Nelson, Chief Development Officer of the Pikes Peak State College Foundation.

Chef Henry Trujillo was hired and mentored by the Founding Executive Chef, Louis Stratta. He worked as the third of only seven executive chefs to date. Chef Trujillo served the Broadmoor’s famed kitchens from 1956 to 1992. Chef Trujillo rose through the ranks and was later promoted to Chef de Cuisine at the Charles Court and Penrose Room kitchens before being named the Hotel’s Executive Chef. Chef Trujillo is noted for the transition from set menus to highlighting the freshest, most delectable ingredients available.

“Chef Trujillo was an invaluable member of our community, and we are delighted to celebrate his legacy with this event,” said Dr. Lance Bolton, President of Pikes Peak State College. “He was not only a gifted chef but also a mentor to many aspiring chefs. Now his memory will live on through this scholarship program that supports our current and future culinary students.”

The Chef Henry Trujillo Culinary Arts Scholarship is being established to support students who demonstrate culinary excellence through an exceptional work ethic, integrity, and a service mindset.  Just as Chef Trujillo was, applicants must be recognized as a problem solver who sees any challenge as a means to grow within their career and exhibit a passion for lifelong learning.
