Ms. Nelson earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. Although on the CPA track, she suprised her peers and family alike by joining the U.S. Peace Corps where she taught Accounting and Computers in the Samoan Islands. This experience sparked her love of teaching!

Upon completion of her stint overseas. Ms. Nelson won a Peace Corpts graduate fellowship to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where she earned an MBA in Information Systems. Ms. Nelson has worked for Fortune 500 companies MCIWorldCom(now verison) and Hewlett-Packard. She also worked as Senior-Accountant-In-Charge at a small software firm before moving into teaching full-time.

She has served as the Accounting Program Chair for over a decade, earning her CPA license in 2013 and achieving the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation in 2017.

In Fall 2019, Ms. Nelson began her Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Accounting at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater.
