Pikes Peak State College Opens New Diagnostic Medical Sonography Lab and Launches Healthcare Program
Colorado Springs, CO — Wednesday, July 23, 2026 — Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) will celebrate the opening of its new Diagnostic Medical Sonography lab and the launch of its Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with a ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday, July 30, from 3-5pm at PPSC’s Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation (CHES), located at 1850 Cypress Semi Dr., Colorado Springs) in room 214.
The new program, which welcomes its inaugural class in the upcoming Fall 2026 semester, prepares students for careers as diagnostic medical sonographers. These healthcare professionals use ultrasound technology to help physicians diagnose and monitor a wide range of medical conditions. The addition of the program expands PPSC's healthcare education offerings while addressing the growing demand for skilled imaging professionals across Colorado and the nation.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is projected to grow 13% from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2025). The profession also offers strong earning potential, with a national median annual wage of $89,340 and a median annual wage of more than $108,000 in Colorado (CareerOneStop, n.d.; U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2025).
"Healthcare employers throughout our region continue to need highly trained imaging professionals," says Chadwick Meisner, director of Radiologic Services at PPSC. "This new program gives students access to a high-demand, high-wage career while helping meet the workforce needs of hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers across southern Colorado."
Guests attending the ribbon cutting will tour the college's new, state-of-the-art sonography lab, meet faculty and members of the inaugural student cohort and learn about the hands-on training students will receive using industry-standard equipment. Chadwick Meisner, director of Radiologic Services, will discuss career opportunities in diagnostic medical sonography and how the new program prepares graduates to enter the profession.
