Jolena took the long path to obtaining her degree, trying a multitude of different paths before accidentally stumbling on the world of Communication! Good thing she did, because this is where she truly believes she belongs.
Having graduated from UCCS with her bachelor’s in Communication (2020) and later her M.A. in Communication (2022), her teaching journey began long before she graduated. She’s educated individuals, both coworkers, volunteer workers and customers, and later students themselves in her academic career nearly every day of her adult life. She’s acted as a guardian to special needs adults and later been privileged to lead a section of Toastmasters where she did public speaking competitively. Jolena has experience in a variety of areas from dialogue, training and development, public speaking, difficult conversations, mediation, ethics, organizational and strategic communication and more. However, ultimately, she sees herself as a student herself. Her job is to teach, but ultimately, it is to learn and she remembers what it was like to be a student, to struggle and work, and what it meant to have that supportive individual believe in her. Learning from her students helps her meet them where they are and further cements the belief that anyone can absolutely get where they want to go! They just need the motivation to try - though having someone who believes in them certainly doesn’t hurt!
She is happily married with 2 small children, a cat and a dog. She loves playing with those cool little kids, reading, gardening, cooking, listening to music and playing video games in her free time.
