Shannon is an adjunct instructor of Communication Arts at Pikes Peak State College. Having taught communication and marketing for the last 26 years at the college level has been one of the great joys of her life. Shannon is a first-generation college student with a doctoral degree in community college policy and administration, a master’s degree in communication and marketing, and undergrad in journalism. She grew up in Houston, Texas, as the oldest of five siblings.

Shannon has worked at various colleges and universities over the years, but her heart has always been at the community college. Moving to Colorado from Texas had been a lifelong goal. Shannon taught at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, for 19 years, first as an adjunct and then for the last seven years as full-time faculty, serving as Assistant Department Chair for Faculty, college-wide committees for Faculty Evaluation, and as support for faculty evaluation. Other educational institutions Shannon has served as an instructor: Central Texas College, University of Maryland Global Campus, Art Institute of Austin, Fletcher Technical Community College, Western New Mexico State University, Trinidad State College, University of Houston-Victoria, Texas A&M University, Baylor University.

Other positions held over the years included Technology Training Coordinator, Marketing and Recruiting Coordinator, Marketing Director, Associate Publisher of a newspaper, and copy editor.

Shannon has four adult children and a husband, as well as two grandchildren. Travel is her favorite, and she has been to 27 countries. Favorite countries have been Spain, Turkey, Peru, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic (for the merengue dancing), Mexico, France, Italy, and Greece. Colorado is the only state she has traveled to that she decided to make home (after leaving her home state). She loves hiking, dancing, and going on adventures including ziplining and going on the Royal Gorge Skycoaster and on the Terrordactyl at Cave of the Winds. Shannon is glad to be at PPSC!
