With a 50-year track-record of serving local vets, PPSC now ranks ninth in the nation among two-year colleges

press release | Oct. 29, 2018

Pikes Peak State College has been ranked as The Military Times’ "Best for Vets: Colleges 2019" making PPSC one of only two community colleges in the state to receive this honor.

"This year marks fifty years of our college supporting the educational success of our military, veterans, and their families," said Paul DeCecco, PPSC's Director of Military and Veterans Programs. “We’re especially proud to announce that our ranking rose from number 25 last year to number nine this year. This is a direct result of our vigilance toward focusing on the needs of our veterans.”

Fewer than half of the 500 colleges that took part in this year’s detailed survey received this designation.  Of the 170 two- and four-year institutions around the nation that received this designation, PPSC is one of the only six Colorado institutions to do so.

As with all Military Times rankings, Best For Vets Colleges 2019 is an editorially independent news project that evaluates the many factors that help make colleges and universities a good fit for service members, military veterans, and their families.

They factor in the results of a comprehensive school-by-school assessment and data from the federal Education, Defense, and Veterans Affairs departments to determine how schools stacked up across five categories: university culture, academic quality and outcomes, policies, student support, cost, and financial aid.

“The Best for Vets designation is trusted throughout the veteran community as the mark of excellence for schools and other organizations that work with veterans, service members, and military families. It can't be bought with advertising dollars – unlike some other supposedly veteran-friendly rankings – only earned through a record of steadfast service and dedication to those who have served,” said George Altman, the Military Times editor in charge of the rankings.
