Why choose Ceramics at PPSC?

When studying ceramics at PPSC, you learn from passionate artists who not only teach, but are also known as world-class ceramic artists. Working closely with your fellow students and professors, you will develop techniques in hand building and wheel throwing. You'll be exposed to electric and gas firings, Raku, glaze development and more. When you finish, you could show your work in shops, galleries, fairs, or online. With more advanced degrees, you could pursue a career in academia.

What you will study?

As a PPSC ceramics student, you will be taught a variety of forming methods and decorative techniques. Students are given the opportunity to create and freely express themselves. Development of personal influences and style is encouraged. Functional and/or decorative ceramic pieces are investigated. Upon graduation, you will have a broad portfolio of work.

Ceramics Classes You Might Take

Ceramics classes can be a part of an Associates of Arts degree program.

ART 1703 | Ceramics I

Introduces traditional and contemporary ceramic forms and processes including hand building and throwing on the potter’s wheel.

ART 1704 | Ceramics II

Encourages students to develop an individual style of hand built and wheel thrown ceramic forms with continuing exploration in forming methods, decorative techniques and firing techniques.

ART 2089 | Capstone: Ceramics

Provides a demonstrated culmination of learning within a given program of study.

Associate of Arts Degree - Studio Art with an emphasis in Ceramics

The Associate of Art degree is designed for students intending to transfer to a four-year university or college to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. Students completing 60 credit hours will start as an entering junior at the four-year school.

Transfer Options

Students completing 60 credit hours will start by entering as a junior at the four-year school. Both degrees are guaranteed to transfer to any four-year state institution in Colorado.

The Associate of Arts degree with a Studio Art designation includes courses that are common to all four-year institutions in Colorado and will prepare your for continued study at a four-year institution in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art.
